Visitation: 5-7 p.m. May 30, at Adams Funeral Home, Nixa. Funeral: 11 a.m. May 31, at First Baptist Church, Nixa, with Pastor Tim Haupt officiating. The funeral will include military honors. Burial to be held at a later date.
Troy L. Mills, 83, of Nixa, unexpectedly passed away, Saturday, May 25, 2019, surrounded by his family and loved ones. He was born in Esther, Jan. 12, 1936, to Kenneth and Nellie (Umfleet) Mills.
Troy was a veteran, teacher, and most importantly, an authentic and joy-filled believer in Christ.
Troy retired from the U.S. Navy after 20 years of distinguished service and immediately met the love of his life, Carolyn. They were married Dec. 22, 1972, and shared over 46 years together.
Troy is survived by his daughter, Kristen (Ron) Steward, of Springfield; his grandson, with whom he had a special bond, Nick Mills, of Nixa; his beloved niece, Mallory (Jessica) Spurgin and nephew Zac Goodall, all of St. Louis; a brother, Norman Mills, of Illinois; son Jeff Mills, of Utah; daughter Judy Harrell, of Washington; and son Michael Mills, of Germany.
Troy was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Bill and Gene.
Troy enjoyed serving at First Baptist Church of Nixa, and also in the community. Troy selflessly gave of himself in whatever he was doing. He adored his family and loved spending time with the children, usually getting them in trouble with his horseplay. He knew he was loved and the family knew he loved them. His legacy includes 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Everyone who knew him is heartbroken, but his family rejoices in knowing he is in the presence of the Savior he loved and served with all his heart.
