Service: 2 p.m. Saturday, March 22, 2014, in Wilson Brim Daniel Chapel, Walnut Grove, With Reverend Jim Jefferies officiating. Interment will follow at Weaver Cemetery in Ozark. Visitation: 1 - 1:45 p.m. before the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Ozark.

John D. McNiel, 84, the son of Sam and Maude (Clark) McNiel, was born March 28, 1929. He died Wednesday, March 19, 2014, in his home at Ozark.

John was born in Walnut Grove and graduated from Walnut Grove High School in 1946. He was a lifelong resident of the Walnut Grove and Ozark areas. John accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior as a boy and was a member of First Baptist Church in Ozark. For more than 30 years, John was an electrical lineman for Springfield City Utilities, and following his retirement, he enjoyed a second successful career as a contractor and developer in the Ozark area. He loved spending time outdoors and was an avid quail hunter and fisherman.

John D. McNiel and Margaret Ragland were united in marriage on June 1, 1951. To this union, two children were born. Together, John and Margaret were privileged to share more than 62 years.

John is survived by his wife Margaret of the home; one son, Dwight McNiel and his wife, Marcella; four grandchildren, Heather (Ted) Johnson of Kissimmee, Fla., Sara (Mitch) Fevold of Bella Vista, Ark., Joselyn Creed of Casa Grande, Ariz., and Jonathan (Rosaline) McNiel of Chesterfield; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Nancy Stockton, Walnut Grove; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

John was preceded in death by his daughter, Teresa “Terry” Reedy, on June 27, 2012. Also preceding him were his parents; three brothers; and seven sisters.
