Lady Trojans by the numbers — Sparta allowing opponents only 33 points a game

Sparta’s girls basketball program appears on its way to a fifth straight winning season, with the Lady Trojans off to a 10-6 start.

It was less than 10 years ago that Sparta endured a three-year stretch in which the Lady Trojans totaled only 10 wins and went 1-24 during the 2017-2018 season.

In Sparta’s first 16 games, the Lady Trojans played 13 teams with a winning record.

Sparta’s starting five are all averaging at least 25 minutes of playing time a game.

Sparta has won with defense, allowing opponents an average of only 33 points a game. That’s seven points a night better than the Lady Trojans allowed last season.

The Lady Trojans are averaging 10 steals a game. Mya Fulton, Averi Leyland and Layne Forgey each have 25 steals or more.

Alivia Loveland has shown off an all-around game. She’s averaging 8.1 points a game and is among Sparta’s leaders with 70 rebounds, 27 assists, 22 steals and 15 3-point goals.

Guard Mya Fulton has a team-best 31 assists.

The Lady Trojans do not have anyone averaging double-figure scoring. Center Amree Youngmon tops the team with a nightly norm of 9.6 points.

Youngmon has provided 106 points in the paint, more than twice as many as any other Lady Trojan. She has had plenty of putbacks, having collected 44 offensive rebounds.

Youngmon also leads Sparta with a .514 field-goal percentage.

The Lady Trojans have five players averaging between 6.9 points and 9.6 points a game.

Sparta’s free-throw shooting has not been a strength. Among the Lady Trojans’ regulars, no one is shooting higher than 57 percent from the foul line.

Later this month, Sparta will play Forsyth for the third time this season.
