The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) describes itself as a service organization and benefits greatly from the volunteer efforts of its members. The organization has approximately 3,000 chapters that exist worldwide. Founded in 1890 as a female-only organization, the DAR clarified in October 2023 that "a transgender woman can join the DAR." Then President General Pamela Rouse Wright emphasized this membership policy by stating in 2023, "We will continue to welcome them in our society."
