Missouri Hall to induct Little, along with Ozark and Sparta state championship teams

Former Ozark coach Yancey Little and his state champion 2005 and 2006 girls basketball teams, along with Sparta’s state champion 2009 girls basketball team, will all be among the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame inductees next month.

Little coached Lady Tigers softball for 13 season and girls basketball for nine years. He started his coaching career at Blue Eye. 

Little’s Ozark basketball teams compiled a 197-61 record and won five District championships, with his 2005 and 2006 teams both capturing the Class 4 title.

Little’s softball teams were a combined 290-102. Ozark was a state runner-up in 2012, also made the Final Four in 2009 and won nine District championships.

The 2005 Lady Tigers included Stacy Borgard and Shannan Borgard, juniors Cali Widel, Arianna Russell, Brie Blose, Tiffany Jones and Cassi Meadows, sophomores Kalyn Stalzer, Melissa Hogan, Cassie Prewitt, Katie Bond, Liz Fugate and freshman Courtney Gimlin. They were 24-8 and edged Lincoln Prep 34-31 in the finals.

The 2006 Lady Tigers included Meadows, Widel, Simone Young, Alyssa Paulsell, Bond, Fugate, Hogan, Prewitt, Gimlin, Casey Hokkanen, Kayla Carson, Megan Walker, Holly Reynolds and Khyrstyn Brumley. They were 25-6 and beat Lee’s Summit West 48-38 in the finals.

Sparta was 31-0 and Class 2 champions in 2009. The Lady Trojans beat Canton 56-49 in the finals. 

Team members were Brooke Stevens, Kayla Coffer, Tashina Tennis, Kayla Case, Alison Stevens, Brandy Watkins, April Crosswhite, Courtney Baughman, Mikalah Hardcastle, Torie Coffer and Dallis Coffer and their coach was Jerry Songer.

The Winter Hall of Fame Luncheon will be held Dec. 13.
