Nixa falls for first time, with Republic upsetting the Eagles in overtime

Nixa will go into its Backyard Brawl Week tied atop the COC after the Eagles lost to Republic 36-35 in overtime Friday.

Republic scored on a two-point conversion pass in the extra period for the decisive score.

The Tigers’ repeated gambles offensively paid winning dividends. They were 6-for-6 converting on fourth down. 

Nixa’s overtime score was a 25-yard touchdown run by Ramone Green.

Green had three touchdowns in the second half.

Nixa received an 11-yard halfback touchdown pass from Rylan Michel to Spencer Ward in the first half to make it 14-14 at half-time.

Republic (5-3) recorded 403 yards of total offense, included 340 yards rushing. Three running backs gained 90 yards rushing or more.

Nixa and Carthage are atop the COC with 7-1 records.
