Nixa's Ashley makes State in four events and sets school record in 800 at Sectionals

WAYNESVILLE — Nixa’s Aaron Ashley enjoyed a record-setting day while qualifying for the Class 5 State Track Meet in four events during Sectionals Saturday.

Ashley was runner-up in the 800 and set a school record in the process with a time of 1:54.80. He was third in the 1,600 (4:17), fourth in the 3,200 (9:57) and ran a leg on the Eagles’ fourth-place 4 x 800 relay (8:01).

The Eagles earned their way to State in all four relays. Their 4 x 100 relay was second (42.65) and their 4 x 200 relay (1:29.06) and 4 x 400 relay (3:23.41) both finished fourth.

In the 4 x 400 relay, Nixa beat fifth-place Lafayette by three-hundredths of a second.

The Eagles’ Aston Hopkins finished first in the pole vault (14-5 1/4), as did Jackson Cantwell in the discus (185-2) and shot put (72-9 1/2).

Hayden Mays was runner-up in the discus (178-3 1/4) and shot put (56-2).

On the girls side, Nixa’s Taylor Hopper turned in a 25.25 to win the 200, Oliva Reed posted an 18-1 3/4 to win the long jump and Eva Williams cleared 11-0 3/4 to win the pole vault.

Rylee Eng was second in the triple jump (37-3 1/4) and third in the long jump (18-0 1/2).

For Ozark, the Lady Tigers’ Bria Wright placed third in both the 100 hurdles (15.30) and 300 hurdles (46.21).

The Lady Tigers received a second from their 4 x 200 relay (1:42.93) and a third from their 4 x 400 relay (4:05.33).

Mallory Beets was fourth in the pole vault (10-0 3/4).

On the boys side, Ozark’s Kannon Williams finished fourth in the 100 (10.97) and 200 (22.49). He was one of six speedsters to be clocked at 10.98 or faster in the 100.

Napela Naihe took fourth in the high jump (5-10 3/4).
