I really enjoyed the program that Channel Three did on our Bank of Sparta. My family has been a member of that bank since we got married in 1953. It has been so good to all the things this community has been involved in. Those three special girls could answer any question we might have and keep us updated on things good and and not so good. more
Chadwick residents came together at the Chadwick Community Center on Saturday, June 6, for Railroad Day, an annual celebration of the town’s history, centering around the old Chadwick Flyer Trail that once ran between Chadwick and Springfield. The event included a parade, a car show, children’s games, live music, baking and costume contests, and more. The Chadwick High School Class of 2026 went from students to alumni at their graduation ceremony, held at Chadwick High School, on Thursday, May 14. Fifteen seniors walked across the stage to receive their diplomas during the ceremony, which included speeches from Valedictorian Ella Herd, Salutatorian Mackenzie Wall, and the senior address from Mr. Ethan Garrett. Some hijinks, including a graduate showing off some trophy-sized bass as he walked across the stage, inserted some humor into the event. When I checked Facebook on Sunday, there were some good pictures of David and Lance at the Chicago Bull Ride. They have some great bulls, but there is a lot of time on the road. Rodeos are one of my favorite sports since we spent so much time at those during the time of raising my family. Those memories just keep adding up. more
County Senate Bill Three failed in the Christian County General Municipal Election, held on Tuesday, April 7. Out of the 10,152 votes cast over the measure, 5,286 votes, or 52.07 percent, were against Senate Bill Three, while 4,866 votes, or 47.93 percent, were in favor. Had Senate Bill Three passed, Christian County property taxes for all current Christian County residents would have been frozen at the 2024 rate, unless significant improvements were made to a property. In that case, the tax rate would have been recalculated at the then current level but would remain the same going forward. Future Christian County residents would also have had their property tax rates calculated at the rate they moved into the county, but their rates would also have been frozen at that level going forward. more
