Christian County residents who wish to contribute to the Pooper Troopers’ Diaper Drive can do so at the Harter House located at 815 W. Kenneth Street in Nixa. The drive, which has a goal of collecting 25,000 diapers to support organizations that help families in need. Harter House in Nixa is one of nine locations across the Ozarks, and the only one in Christian County, where donations are being accepted. more
Nixa Journalism students have earned the top George H. Gallup Award from the Quill & Scroll International Honor Society for High School Journalists. The multimedia evaluation offered a judge's critique on Nixa Journalism's multi-level approach to news coverage, led by the students of Wingspan magazine, along with NixaJournalism.net, EagleAir TV, the Eagle yearbook and students in the Introduction to Journalism classes. The prestigious Gallup Award is presented to high school journalism programs that earn the top ranking of "Superior" in all five judging categories: General Practices; Coverage; Writing and Editing; Visuals; and Digital. A Nixa man was recognized as one of the six people the Missouri Public Transit Association (MPTA) recognized with an award earlier this month. Jerry Browning was given the association’s Missouri Transit Operator Champion Award at the Missouri Transit Conference, held in Kansas City in early September, according to a press release from the MPTA. more
For the sixth consecutive year, the mayors of Nixa and Ozark are teaming up with Community Blood Center of the Ozarks (CBCO) to host the Mayors Challenge Blood Drive on Thursday, September 25. This friendly competition between the two cities aims to see which community can rally the most blood donors, with a traveling trophy awarded to the city with the highest turnout. more

Nixa Public Schools celebrated the unveiling of the new Apex Activity Center with a ribbon-cutting hosted by the district and the Nixa Chamber of Commerce on Thursday, Sept. 18. The ceremony gave the school district a chance to show off its newest facility. more

Michael Edward Pace passed away on September 11, 2025, from complications related to Acute Myeloid Leukemia, a disease he had bravely battled and had been in remission from. He was a fighter to the end. On April 9th, 2025, Governor Kehoe gave them massive rates increase, when he signed SB4 into law, changing how and when Missouri utility companies receive approval for rate increases. SB4 dismantles decades of accepted accounting practices and consumer protection. more

Two Nixa High School students were named as semifinalists in the 2026 National Merit Scholarship Program on Wednesday, Sept. 10. Seniors Deakin Clover and Dalton Jones are two of some 16,000 high school students who were named as semifinalists in the program. The 16,000 comprise less than one percent of the high school students in the nation. more
On Wednesday, Sept. 10, the conservative political activist Charlie Kirk was killed by an assassin’s bullet while speaking at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah. Not long afterwards, Dr. Chris Rispoli, co-owner of the Gentle Care Animal Hospital in Edmond, Okla., made a social media post disparaging Kirk and suggesting that other people like him would also be killed. Several people reacted angrily to Rispoli’s post. However, some of those responding to Rispoli directed their anger at the Gentle Care Animal Hospital in Nixa, a veterinary clinic that has the same name as Rispoli’s but is not affiliated with them.  more

A North Carolina man was booked into the Christian County Jail after being arrested for allegedly touching a child inappropriately in Nixa almost two years ago. Stephen Christopher Oxendine, 35, is charged with one count of first-degree sodomy. more
Nixa and Ozark Parks and Recreation departments closed out by allowing dogs to come and play in their city pools before they closed for the year. On Monday, Sept. 1, Nixa Parks and Rec held the Doggie Dive In, sponsored by Seven Hills Veterinary Clinic. About 75 dogs and 80 people attended the event. Meanwhile, on Tuesday, Sept. 2, the Neal Grubaugh Municipal Pool in Ozark hosted Paws in the Pool, which saw 30 dogs and 40 people in attendance. more
Dr. Dennis D. Sloan, of Nixa, passed away on Sept. 4, 2025, at the age of 75. He was born March 19, 1950, in Springfield, Mo., to Bill and Ada (Gill) Sloan. more
