The Nixa Fire Protection District (NFPD) held an open house at their Fire Training Center on Wednesday, April 16. The open house was a chance for members of the public to tour the training center, which was formerly the NFPD’s Fire Station One. Visitors were treated to breakfast and shown around the building. more
Nixa Parks and Recreation held their annual Easter Egg Hunt at McCauley Park on Friday, April 18. An estimated 500 children attended the event to get a share of about 22,000 candy-filled eggs. Other attractions included face painting, inflatable buildings, food trucks and a visit from the Easter Bunny. more

The Nixa Drone Team 2319 X, consisting of Dalton Jones, Andrew Durbin, and Faith Helterbrand, took first place at the 2025 All-Service JROTC Drone National Championships on Friday, April 4 and Saturday, April 5. The tournament, which included 83 drone teams from around the United States, included teams from Hawaii and Samoa. After 160 grueling qualifying rounds, Team 2319 X, as well as Nixa's two other teams, placed high enough in the seeding to advance to the single-elimination rounds. However, only 50 percent of the teams advanced. more

Christian County voters approved Ambulance District Property Tax Relief, a ballot measure that the Christian County Ambulance District put forth on the ballot for the election held on Tuesday, April 8. During the election, 2,770 people, or 52.29 percent of the voters, cast “Yes” votes for the proposition, while 2,527 people, or 47.71 percent of those who voted, cast “No” votes. more
Congratulations to the EagleAir staff for being recognized in NBCU Academy's nationwide student broadcast news contest. Freshmen Alexander Eggleston, Scarlett Mahy, and Dusty Stewart won a 6th Place Finalist award for Outstanding Video News Report from the NBCU Academy contest called The Edit. The contest required students to create a video news package centered around the subject of "wellness," using the Adobe Express video editing app. Their news package focused on how students can balance screen time with overall health. The Edit Spring 2025 contest received submissions from schools across the United States, with registrations from over 600 teachers representing more than 23,000 students. more
Nixa residents had the opportunity to see several service vehicles up close at the first annual Hands On Nixa, a service-learning project organized by the Nixa High School JROTC, on Saturday, April 12. About 1,000 people attended the event. more

Nixa High School DECA students recently competed at the DECA State Career Development Conference in Kansas City, MO on March 23-25. In order to compete at the state level, students must first qualify at the district level. Nixa High School’s DECA chapter earned the opportunity to advance to the International Career Development Conference and represent Missouri. The competition involves a combination of a written component such as an exam or report and an interactive component with an industry professional serving as a judge. more
Nixa Journalism earned eight awards from the Language Arts Development of Southwest Missouri. The Wingspan magazine staff won both the first and second place awards in the School Magazine category. more

On Saturday, March 22, Zan Fugitt, a 2023 Nixa High School graduate, won All-American honors when he came in fourth at the NCAA National Wrestling Tournament in Philadelphia, becoming only the second person from south of I-44 to win All-American honors in wrestling. Less than a week later, he was back in Nixa to lead a wrestling clinic at his old high school. About 60 kids attended the clinic. more
A Nixa Middle School student paid a visit to his former kindergarten teacher on Friday, April 4, and read his book to the students in her class. Carter Zoromski, 14, read his book, PJ Pirate, to the students in Leigh Berry's kindergarten class at Century Elementary School, capping off their Pirate-themed week. more
Abigail Conrad of Nixa was among 225 University of Nebraska-Lincoln undergraduate students officially admitted to teacher education programs during the 2024-25 academic year who were recognized at the second annual Teacher Education Convocation on April 4 at Carolyn Pope Edwards Hall. Conrad is a sophomore in the elementary education program. more
