On Feb. 18, Nixa High School’s a cappella choir, “Nixapella,” participated in the International Championship of High School A Cappella (ICHSA, the same competition featured in the movie “Pitch Perfect”) quarterfinals at Liberty High School. This region is one of the most competitive in the country, drawing competitors from across five states. Nixapella, in only its third year of existence, not only won the entire competition, they beat the winners from the previous two years. more

The Ozarks Technical Community College (OTC) Board of Trustees approved an additional $312,948 to expand the planned Agriculture and Electrical Distribution Systems Building at the Richwood Valley campus in Nixa. The City of Nixa is launching Nixa 2045, a process for planning the city’s growth for the next 20 years and beyond. This new comprehensive plan process will be used to guide decision-making, development and infrastructure projects across the community. The Nixa 2045 plan will serve as a road map to visualize where the public wants to go as a city, and the path to reach that destination. The focus of the plan will be a strong emphasis on land use, transportation, education, parks and trails, development patterns, housing types, infrastructure and economic development. Public input will be essential to shaping this plan for Nixa’s vibrant future. more
Lucid TLC Studio & Art Gallery will host the art of area photographer Dee Albers as its featured artist for December. The exhibit will showcase many of Albers’ landscapes in prints and on canvas. The studio/gallery is located at 214 North Massey Boulevard. An opening night reception was held on Saturday, Dec. 2 for Albers’ exhibit. more

The Can the Tigers/Can the Eagles event was created more than 15 years ago to serve as a community service project benefiting Least Of These, Inc. through the long-standing friendly and competitive rivalry between Nixa and Ozark in Christian County. It has grown into a large community event in conjunction with one of the most anticipated football games every year, the Backyard Brawl, between Nixa and Ozark. more
