Surrounded by members of the Nixa City Council and City Hall staff, Mayor Jarad Giddens prepares to cut the ribbon at a ceremony celebrating the completion of the Nixa City Hall remodel. The remodel, which was paid for with ARPA funds, increased work space for the staff at City Hall, as well as the City Council chambers. It has been a long, hot, humid, mostly dry summer. Most of you, like me, are ready for all that to go away. I am sorry to say that this year it looks like summer will stay with us for a while longer. For those of us who love the outdoors, and those of you who have to work outside, that is not good news, but we will deal with it. more
Recently, I ate a fried green tomato BLT from Ebbets Fields in Springfield, and I couldn't stop thinking about it. There's a certain group of foods that, when spotted on a menu, I can't help but order. Fried green tomatoes are in that group, along with fried okra and hushpuppies – and, well, maybe anything deep-fried, actually. Not so great for my waistline. more

Members of the Nixa FFA Chapter joined more than 782 FFA members from 95 Missouri FFA Chapters and agricultural leaders to pack meals, a capstone celebration through service of the Missouri Farmers Care Foundation’s (MFCF) 2026 Drive to Feed Kids (Drive). The Missouri FFA Day of Service spanned Monday, Aug. 17 and Tuesday, Aug. 18 at the Missouri State Fair. Members packed 252,564 meals to feed food insecure Missouri families. more
As autumn officially starts this month, seasonal constellations start coming into view. Two of the more recognizable constellations are connected together. Pegasus can be seen as a large square that is just above the horizon, while Andromeda is dimmer, but connected to Pegasus. Andromeda contains a dim object that changed the scale of the universe. more
Christian County Lions Club is excited to host our 11th Annual 5K Run / 1 Mile Walk on Saturday, Sept. 19, 2026, at 9 a.m. at Finley River Trail in Ozark, MO. NEW this year is the option to run a 10K on the Chadwick Flyer Trail at the same time and location. Races are timed events. This is our major fundraiser for the year. more
