A Nixa woman was named the winner of the fourth annual “Perfect Your Pizza” competition in Sonoma, Calif., on Monday, Oct. 13. Emily Jenkins won the contest with her “Fire and Pine Pizza” recipe, which, according to a press release, featured “pepperoni, stracciatella, and a pine nut-chili crisp.” more
A Spokane man has been arrested and booked into the Christian County Jail after he was charged with multiple sex crimes against children. David Michael Patrick, 72, was booked into the jail on Monday, Oct. 20. more

Mayor Jared Giddens was honored by the Missouri Public Utilities Alliance (MPUA) during their annual conference on Thursday, Oct. 2. At the conference, Giddens was presented with the 2025 MPUA Public Official Award in recognition of “championing locally controlled utilities.” more
When Christian County residents go to the polls to cast votes in the election on Tuesday, Nov. 4, they will be asked to approve a county-wide use tax that the county commission will put Christian County business owners on a level-playing field with out-of-state vendors who do business with Christian County residents online. Additionally, Nixa voters are being asked to approve an increase of $0.25 per $100 of assessed value to create additional funding for the Nixa Fire Protection District. more
I’ve been an active member of many civic organizations since coming to Buffalo in 1978. I had never before been a “joiner,” outside of Future Farmers of America in high school. The eldest son of a former FFA member, I didn’t give joining FFA any thought at all. I just did it. That was what farm boys did. more

Roger "Butch" Lyle Gold passed away peacefully in his home on Oct. 11, 2025. He was born on Jan. 21, 1947, to Floyd "Tiny" and Neta Lebow Gold in Galena, Mo. Roger was an explosives engineer and worked many years for Conco Quarries, later for Journagan Construction, and Apac Construction. He was a life member of Construction Laborers Local Union 663. He enjoyed fishing at the Maples farm on Crane Creek, day trips with his beloved wife, of 58 years, Jan, and many spontaneous family road trips over the years. His main love was being with his family at any time. more

The Annual Squirrel Hunt was changed to the 25th at the school because of the predicted stormy weather that was to happen on the 18th. Still lots of squirrels running around. more
The Sparta Persimmon Days Festival was held in Sparta’s Roller Park on Friday, Oct. 17 and Saturday, Oct. 18. The event included over 80 vendors, selling items such as crafts, food, jewelry, clothing, and more. Live entertainment was also a part of the event, with the band Not Too Shabby, the Ozark Dance Academy, and the Steve and Heather Show giving performances under the main pavilion. The festival also included a parade held on Sparta’s downtown Main Street. Sadly, the thunderstorm which rolled through the area after the parade forced the festival to shut down early. more
Nixa Junior High School held Eaglepalooza, a type of carnival, on the school grounds on Monday, Oct. 13. An estimated 800 people attended the event, which also acted as a school fundraiser, featured 15 different booths with various games and activities, including chalk decorating, tug of war, face painting, and more. The event also included a book fair held in the school’s commons area. more
Clever Elemiddle School was recently recognized as a Dr. Norman C. Gysbers Nationally Recognized Missouri Program by the Missouri School Counselor Association (MSCA) due to the work by Counselors Lindsey Casey, DaLynn Twigg, and Brittany Randall. more

Andrew “Drew” Gunnison Cully, 35, of Ozark, Mo., tragically lost his life on Sept. 17, 2025, in an accident involving his MH-60M Black Hawk helicopter near Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash. while completing a training mission for the Army Special Operations Aviation Regiment known as the “Night Stalkers,” the 160th SOAR is the Army’s premier special operations flying unit. more
