I notice that I’ve given a “C” rating to every movie I’ve reviewed in 2025. That’s four straight times I’ve basically said that the movie, while not worth writing off entirely, isn’t worth recommending. I even split the review last weekend and gave out two “C” ratings. Director Mel Gibson’s “Flight Risk” ends the “C” streak. It doesn’t end the streak by earning my recommendation, but by being a movie that I feel is indeed worth writing off.

We are not looking forward to this week's weather forecast. There is a lot going on in the schedule, and bad roads are not good for that. But we are luckier than most places around the U.S.

JEFFERSON CITY – It’s been an active year for earthquakes in the New Madrid Seismic Zone (NMSZ), with 293 minor quakes reported in the past 12 months. Though most were too small to be felt, they are an important reminder that southeast Missouri is located in the heart of the NMSZ, which generated some of the most powerful earthquakes ever to jolt the nation.

Anyone watching the night sky eventually notices that there are several objects that move in relation to the static backdrop of the stars. The Greek astronomers named them ‘wanders.’ The light from these objects was steady, rarely dimming or lighting. We know them as planets. Early observations of the planets had them follow a tight area in the sky. Early astronomers found five of these objects. They named them Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn. Later, Uranus and Neptune were discovered. The region of the sky where the planets appeared to move was called the ecliptic. The Moon and Sun also appear to move in the same part. The twelve constellations in this path are the zodiacal constellations.

Juanita June Ramsey Turner was born Sept. 8, 1934, to parents Ted and Alta Ramsey. She had three older sisters, Faye, Ruth, and Thelma, an older brother, Gene, and a younger brother, Charles. Her brother Gene could not pronounce Juanita, so he called her Dede, which became her lifelong name. Living on a farm, she learned the value of hard work while attending school in a one-room schoolhouse. Later, Dede began working when she was fourteen and had a variety of jobs, such as childcare, waitressing, factory work, contracting for cleaning new construction homes, pet sitting, and home health care, along with church visitation to homebound members.
