Joyce is a single parent, and she has a problem. Divorced for 12 years, she had moved to Missouri in July from California with her 17-year-old son, Sam, and he wanted to go deer hunting.

My, how quickly this month has gone by. It was so good seeing my friends from the past meetings at the meeting with Kaitlyn McConall last weekend at the Chadwick Community Building in her study of Chadwick’s history. There is no end to the history of our town. I am so glad that our school has adopted the Chadwick Flyer for many of the activities. This means that our young folks are interested in history.

Some years ago, I prided myself as an ace squirrel hunter. Many a fall day would find me in the oak woods scanning limbs for the flutter of a red tail in the breeze or the scurrying of a fuzzy fox squirrel around a red oak trunk.

Every deer camp has individuals with a special uniqueness that, when blended like spices and seasonings in a recipe, make the deer camp the special place it is.

There was a cold spell last weekend and Monday that brought out a lot of frost flowers along the roadways. As I looked out my window, it looked like someone had thrown something out, and it hung in the fences. A closer look proved to be lots of frost flowers. They always look so pretty.

I know many veterans. Several attend our church. We always take time to honor them for their service on Veterans’ Day and any other opportunity we might have throughout the year. We have a wall in our church dedicated to our veterans.

Among other things that made me happy this week were that Randy and Brandy got my garage door repaired, and Steven and Emmily Greene got my hay delivered that I bought back in August. That has lessened my stress level a lot. The hot dry spell made pastures go away, and made livestock very restless

Recently, my wife and I were having our blood work done before an upcoming six-month checkup with our doctor. As we sat there waiting to hear our names called, I looked around the big waiting room packed with people.

There was a call from my sister, Hester, last week to invite me, along with other members of her family, to a gathering at the Springfield Airport to welcome home the Honor Flight from Washington, D.C. one night last week. Her husband, Mac, was to be one of the flight members (I was unable to go). Reports are that it was a great trip and a great evening. Mac's daughter, Cindy, had gone with him on the trip. It was a trip to be remembered by everyone who was involved. Mac had some medical issues not so very long ago and was pretty tired from such a big day. Hopefully, they got a recording of (the entire) event. Mac had served in the Vietnam War. Herter's twin granddaughters loved hearing his stories. They are at the right age to write some stories

I’ve been an active member of many civic organizations since coming to Buffalo in 1978. I had never before been a “joiner,” outside of Future Farmers of America in high school. The eldest son of a former FFA member, I didn’t give joining FFA any thought at all. I just did it. That was what farm boys did.

My grandfather, Joseph Aloysius Bodey, immigrated to Southwest Missouri in the early 1880’s. There he later met Margaret, a daughter of immigrants, married her, and together raised four children. One was my father. Over the last few hundred years this is the story of America. With hard-work and determination, immigrants have made our country better.
