Nixa finished up its showing at the Class 6 Final Four by trailing for every inning of its two games en route to a fourth-place finish.
The Eagles lost to Jackson 2-1 in the third-place game, the same score as Nixa’s semifinal setback at the hands of eventual state champion Liberty North.
Jackson tallied single runs in the first and seventh innings against Nixa pitchers Jackson Gamble and Colin Kelley.
Gamble threw the first 6.1 innings and yielded just three hits and one walk, while striking out six. He threw strikes on 54 of his pitches.
Gamble’s W-L record dropped to 5-2 on the season.
The Eagles’ offense was shut out over the first six innings, before Reese Dirnberger produced an RBI-single to plate Rylan Michel.
Nixa’s four hits were all singles. Caeden Cloud was 2-for-3.
The game took less than two hours to complete.
Jackson winning pitcher John Paul Sauer fanned five and walked one.
Pitching dominated in both of Nixa’s games at State. The Eagles’ combined batting average in their two losses was .184.
Nixa finished 32-8.
