COLUMBIA — Chadwick’s girls cross country team all but lapped the competition while capturing the team title at the Class 1 State Championships on Friday.
The Lady Cardinals posted 60 points at the Gans Creek Cross Country Course, easily outdistancing runner-up Liberal’s total of 98. Every other team was in the 100s or 200s.
This is Chadwick's first state team championship since the Lady Cardinals' basketball team claimed the Class 1 team title in 2005. The Cardinals' Evan Smith ran to four state championship in track from 2018-2019.
Chadwick had five finishers in the top 35.
Freshmen twins Emily and Macy Landry both turned in top-10 performances. Emily placed fifth in a time of 20:30 and Macy was seventh in 20:34.
Emily Landry was only :15 from second place.
Mya Wray, of South Nodaway, was a runaway winner in 19:11. The sophomore won 1,600 and 3,200 state championships in track in the sprng.
Chadwick’s Raeleigh Little finished 15th (21:15), Alexis Loveland 23rd (21:33) and Gretchen House 35th (22:20).
This was Chadwick’s first season with enough runners to qualify for team standings.
In Class 2, Sparta’s Rylie McMurry finished 37th (21:52).
