On Dec. 29, 2025, Dr. Phillip Andrew Shufford, who served for 12 years as the director of missions for the Tri-County Baptist Association of Southern Missouri (TCBASM), died after a battle with cancer. He was 66.

Ronald Ellison, a cherished husband, devoted father, and beloved grandfather, passed away Jan. 11, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love and wisdom. Known affectionately as "Ron the Best" and "Pa'Pa," He was the proud father to two daughters, Krista Paladino and Naomi Murphy, and a treasured grandfather, great grandfather, godfather, and uncle.

On Sunday, Dec. 28, 2026, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints formed a new congregation in Christian County named McCauley Park. The congregation includes members from eastern Nixa bordering the City of Ozark.

A Nixa man was arrested on Saturday, Jan. 10 after he allegedly put a woman in a chokehold. Anthony James Altick, 38, is charged with first-degree domestic assault in relation to the incident.

Norbert Roy Laengrich, age 88, of Ozark, Mo., passed away peacefully on Jan. 8, 2026, at his home. Norbert was born to Oscar Carl and Hazel Neda Laengrich on July 3, 1937, in Jones City, Okla. He was raised in Jones and later moved to Checotah, Okla., where he graduated from high school in 1956. Norbert married Mamie Lucille Tillery on Aug. 10, 1968, in Carlsbad, N.M. Norbert and Lucille shared many years of marriage until her death on Nov. 20, 2014. Norbert proudly served in the United States Army from Aug. 21, 1956, to July 31, 1962.

Just a reminder that there will be a Celebration of Life for Darlene Applegate at the Chadwick Community Building on Saturday, Jan. 24. Her ashes will be placed at the Joe Applegate Cemetery just off Highway H. Lunch will be available for friends and family at the community center. The family hopes to see many of Darlene's friends whom she grew up with in Chadwick with stories of her earlier days.

Audiences flocked to the Aetos Center in Nixa for the Yuck Show on Sunday, Jan. 18, to enjoy a fun show that combined science with comedy. Brian Whittington, who hosted the show, invited several children from the audience to join him onstage, where they helped carry out experiments that demonstrated scientific principles while incorporating fun, hands-on activities, such as relay races, smoke rings, and mummy wrapping participants.

On Sunday, Jan. 18, Brian Whittington will present “The Yuck Show,” which he describes as “a big science party.” The next day, Monday, Jan. 19, Dr. Chad Rollins, of Republic, and the Guidance Expedition will debut “A Journey towards Hope and Positive Growth in Life.”

The Christian County 100 Club held Poker Night, their second largest fundraiser of the year, on Thursday, Jan. 8, at the Ozark Event Center. The purpose of the event was to raise money to support the families of first responders who lose their lives in the line of duty. About 50 people attended Poker Night, during which they enjoyed food and beverages while playing craps, poker, and roulette while trying to win a share of the $2,000 in prizes which were donated to the Christian County 100 Club. Marc Backes, owner of the Ozark Event Center, donated the space where the event was held.

A forest fire that burnt 700 acres of forest land in Christian County was fully contained by the U.S. Forest Service on Friday, Jan. 9, about a week after it was first reported on Saturday, Jan. 3. The blaze was located in the Swan Creek Non-motorized Area of the Mark Twain Forest, near Chadwick.

I love being in the outdoors and enjoying all it has to offer me. I have spent many years doing that. Since I am retired, I spend most of my time indoors during the cold winter months. Unless I do go out to get firewood, fill the bird feeders, or go to church. The rest of the time, I warm myself by the fire and write stories.

An Ozark man who was originally sentenced to five years of probation after pleading guilty to two counts of third-degree child molestation has been re-sentenced to six years in prison. Dylan Keller, 22, received the sentence on Tuesday, Dec. 23.
