At the third Annual Nixa Men's Varsity Volleyball Tournament on April 11, the Eagles captured their first tournament championship in program history, a milestone moment for a team that began competing in 2024. In the title match, Nixa defeated Lutheran St. Charles High School 25-22, 17-25, 25-22, avenging a pool play loss from earlier in the day and showing tremendous resilience when it mattered most.

WASHINGTON — The Justice Department announced (on Wednesday, April 29) that the owners of residential rental properties in and around Springfield, Mo. have agreed to pay $250,000 to resolve a lawsuit alleging that the properties’ former owner and manager sexually harassed female tenants in violation of the Fair Housing Act.

Downtown Ozark Market Days returned to the Ozark Square on Saturday, May 2. Eighty-six vendors, including businesses, craftsmen, and organizations registered for the event. Attendees were able to peruse the various booths, which included food items, clothing, handmade jewelry, art, vintage items, and more. Downtown Ozark Market Days will be held on the square from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. on the first Saturday of each month through October. Spring brings new constellations to the night sky. Gone are all the bright blue stars in Orion and Canis Major. The view we have of the night is away from any arm of the Milky Way. The constellations seen towards the southern sky are dim yet hold new views for those searching for new constellations.

The Nixa and Ozark Police Departments will join law enforcement in Springfield, Hollister and Indian Point in adopting the Blue Envelope Program, an initiative designed to create safer interactions between police officers and people with special needs. It was announced that the departments would begin using the program during a press conference held in cooperation with Arc of the Ozark, Abilities First, and Burrell Behavioral Health at the Greene County Public Safety Center on Monday, April 20.

The Christian County Sheriff’s Office, in partnership with OTC and the Missouri Sheriff’s Association, is offering a new 700-hour Basic Peace Officer Law Enforcement Academy, to be taught in Ozark. The academy will begin instruction on Monday, Aug. 3. When instruction ends on Thursday, Dec. 17, those who have successfully completed the training will have earned a Class A Peace Officer License with the State of Missouri.

Fallen Christian County Deputy Sheriffs Gabriel Ramirez and Michael Hislope were memorialized in an Arbor Day celebration at McCauley Park in Nixa on Friday, April 24. Two bur oak trees were planted in the southeast corner of the park. Two markers were placed in front of the trees, each with the name of one of the deputies and their date of their end of watch.

The Ozark Chamber of Commerce held their annual Showcase Ozark Expo at the Ozark Innovation Center on Saturday, April 25. Almost 70 businesses and organizations set up booths at the event, during which they were able to meet with attendees to discuss the services or products they had to offer. Many of the vendors had games that the attendees played for prizes, or offered special giveaways.

Long before I convinced Lindsey to marry me, I learned I was going to have to earn it. If memory serves me right, I sent her flowers every day for a week before she would even return my call. Some men fall in love at first sight. I apparently signed up for a seven-day floral payment plan.

Another wedding shower on Saturday with lots of neat snacks. They got some really neat gifts. The couple will be living in a travel trailer on the house grounds while the house is being built by family members. It is good to have builders in the family.
