We had two nice showers over the weekend. There was an inch-and-a-half each time. The yard grass stays wet each day. It looks like that is about to end for a while. more

Missouri is one of only a few states that still offers free access to all state parks and historic sites. The average Missourian contributes roughly $20 per year through the Parks, Soils and Water sales tax. That is less than the cost of a single park entrance fee in many states. This ballot measure has passed every year it has been on the ballot since 1984. Most times it has passed with a two-thirds majority, or greater. more
Our Friendship Club had a short meeting Monday morning to update a few activities. Then, a few of us made a drive down H Highway to Forsyth to try out a new small cafe. Some of the members had other commitments. Our 2026 Railroad Day was a success and plans are being made to improve for next year. We have been wearing the t-shirts that my granddaughter, Joey, designed. She will even improve for next year. She is around me and the history of Chadwick, so I am sure the next will include more of that. She can dig into all the books around here for ideas. more
Tomato season is finally here, and I like to say that when it rains tomatoes, it pours tomatoes. Why can't the season be a little more spread out? One day you don't have a single ripe tomato, and the next you have twenty rotting on your kitchen counter. more
Two of the churches in town will begin Bible School on Monday evening. A lot of good things are being planned. more
Governor Mike Kehoe signed the FY2027 state operating and capital budget bills, after several volatile months as it relates to public transit funding. While the final budget preserves $2.5 million from Capitol Commission funds and $1.7 million from the State Transportation Fund for operations, state support remains below prior levels — down 37 percent from FY2025 and 64 percent since the Governor took office. more
Rivers were a big part of my life growing up, and still are. As a kid, I would dig for worms and catch grasshoppers and crickets, and go fishing. Sometimes it was with some buddies, but mostly, it was just me, my dog, and my fishing pole. We were poor back then, so I would bring home what I caught, and grandma would fry them up for supper. more

It was so nice to see all the friends at the birthday party. I had to look twice to recognize some of them; it had been so long since I had seen a few of them. Several of the friends have had some illnesses. Here is wishing they will be better soon. more
My little girl Charleston isn't so little anymore. This past week, we celebrated her 11th birthday. As I was tucking her in the night before, I could feel the excitement. She had big plans for her special day. Thankfully, she looks like her mother, but I knew she was my daughter when she requested a mechanical bull at her birthday party. more
