Firefighters from the Ozark Fire Protection District (OFPD) helped respond to flooding in Iron and Reynolds County on Friday, July 11. Four firefighters with the OFPD were part of a 12-member Region D Strike Team which engaged in search, rescue and recovery operations in the effected counties. more

Doris Frauenhofer, 85, passed away on Monday, July 13, 2026. Doris was born in Torrington, Conn., where she met and married her soulmate Robert Frauenhofer, with whom she enjoyed over 50 years of happiness and adventure. more

The Sparta Historic District (SHD) celebrated dual milestones on Saturday, July 4, with their first ever Founder’s Day celebration. The event commemorated both the 250th anniversary of the nation’s Declaration of Independence and the 150th anniversary of the city’s founding. more

Eighty-one veterans returned home to a hero’s welcome from throngs of supporters after a day-long trip to Washington D.C., courtesy of Honor Flight of the Ozarks (HFO), on Tuesday, July 7. During the trip, the veterans had the opportunity to view monuments including the World War II Memorial, the Korean War Veterans Memorial, and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, the U.S. Marine Corps Memorial and Arlington National Cemetery. The veterans also had the chance to see the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. more
Two of the churches in town will begin Bible School on Monday evening. A lot of good things are being planned. more
